Computer issues. Please help.
I turned on my pc this morning. Walked out of the room and came back to blank screens. Tried restarting. Heard noises like normal. Nothing on the monitors. Plugged into the video output directly from the motherboard and got a signal (shitty one). Checked device manager and the video card showed an error. I uninstalled it then reinstalled the video card from the device manager window. The error message went away. I restarted the pc several times and still it didn't help. I get nothing on the monitors unless I plug right into the motherboard. I'm not the best with computers and I think it seems to be that my video card went bad but I want to make sure before I buy another one. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
sounds like the video card. try taking it out wiping of the contacts and reseating it well.
do you have an old video card or old computer somewhere to help you troubleshoot?
Basically it can only be the software, which is unlikely to change over night, the video hardware or the motherboard. Motherboard failures are very rare. Usually the video card melts it self down, has happened to me 3x and shawn once.

I do not have an old one to test with. If it's possible that it's a software issue would restoring the pc to an earlier setting help in checking that?
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
I guess so? That is the point of those restore points but ive never had them actually fix anything. I dont really do anything except internet surf and play wow so its not usually a software thing for me though.

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Gonna drop it off to a little repair shop in town after work tomorrow and they'll be able to tell me what exactly it is hopefully. If it's not too bad or expensive I hope to get it fixed and be back in a few days.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
I also saw the look of sheer euphoria and excitement when I told the GF that the computer was broken and I couldn't plays games anymore. Then I destroyed that feeling when I exclaimed that getting it fixed was priority number 1. lol

Hahah, at least you got to see that face once. ;)

Read all the way thru
I went to the repair place, Maumee Geek , sounds like a great place for what I need, walk in the door. 2 nice looking girls working there, bonus. After talking for a while they both sound very intelligent and have a good grasp on what they're talking about. We open the computer up, test the power supply, power supply works just fine. YAY. Next they start it up and I show them what I was talking about with getting no output from the video card but I do from the port right off the motherboard. So we remove the video card and replace it with a smaller crappy other card to test it. Plug the monitor in and start it up..... IT WORKS! Eureka!! It would seem that it is definitely the video card that the problem is. They ask if I want to put the old one back in, I said no, just recycle it, it's garbage anyway. So they inform me that they don't have any good gaming ones in stock. They'd have to order one and it would take a couple days to get. I said fuck it, there's a Best Buy right around the corner. I go to Best Buy look around, get an awesome.... I mean AWESOME one for $250. Go home, I'm super excited to get it working again. I open up the PC, install the new card, plug everything in. Then I go take a piss cause I had been holding it in for hours, it's been a busy day. I return to the PC and slowly and satisfyingly reach down to touch the power button. The PC starts up, it beeps like normal, and........ nothing on the monitors. SAME FUCKING PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't get it. So fucking pissed. So now I have the exact same problem and I spent $250 on something that I can't replace because they recycled my old one.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
What the hell !? That does not make sense. How does that even happen?
Maybe the new video card needs drivers?
Maybe the contacts were dirty?
Maybe the video card wasn a match for the motherboard?
That's really a bummer after it working in the shop. Fingers crossed its not the motherboard.

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Could it be a power supply issue?
idk what would have started the problem going, but lets say power supply getting old isn't working as well and.... craps out on the video power.
The swap out with a cheese low power card everything works cuz the draw is 50% less.
Then you plug in monstro the beefy card and theres not enough power for it.

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
What is your power supply anyway dwizz? I am leaning toward the same thing as Myth with the PS not being enough... Video Cards are a drain on power so it could be that the shizz they put in was weak and the PS could support it... That said with a PS failure you would think it would hit other hardware as well...
Unless your MB is ancient I don't think its a compatibility issue... you would find that more with processors/ram as opposed to video cards

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
It's a 700 W power supply. It's plenty to run everything I have. They recycled the other card cause I said to since at the time we were very certain that that was the problem. Which from everything that was done and tested I myself was positive it was the video card. I've talked to a couple tech people about everything today and none of them have ever seen or heard of anything like this before. Hopefully I'll be able to find something out soon. Gotta take it in after work to get them to run a full diagnostic on it.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
yep 700w is plenty... I mean if you were 4-500 then maybe.. I am a lil stumped as well tbh. Good luck after work Dwizz hopefully they can nail down the issue :)

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Dropped it off today. They're gonna try and figure out what the problem is. Hope they find it quick and can fix it just as quick. Not sure what I'd do if I didn't have a computer all weekend. I'd be bored as fuck.

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
I still have the tv and an xbox. But one can only play so much GTA and COD. Don't even get me started on the tv. The fucking GF is always watching the next episode of Americas fattest fattys. I haven't heard anything from them today so I guess the haven't figured it out yet. I'll call em tomorrow.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Just got off the phone with the place. It's the motherboard. They're gonna fix it. I don't trust myself to do it. Gonna cost me $300. Yes. I'm getting a bad ass one. lol It won't be ready until next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Update; Due to the winter storm that has hot our area..... For the what seems like the 500th time so far this year. The motherboard shipment got delayed at least a day. Maybe two. So there's a chance that I won't get it back until next week now.
Re: Computer issues. Please help.
Meanwhile back in Canada; when my motherboard died I walked to a computer store and picked up a replacement and walked home, took me 40 min start to finish.
I'm not saying everything is better here, just that most things are worse there ;)
